Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Thorndale (Dublin) Lands.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

134 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food (a) if his Department still own the lands at Thorndale, Beaumont, Dublin 9, (b) if not, if he will outline the current owners of these lands, (c) by whom the decision was made to sell these lands, (d) the reason it was decided to sell the lands, (e) the reason the sale is not yet completed and (f) if the firm of auctioneers for the sale reported to him (i) the number of tenders received, (ii) from whom the tenders were received and when and (iii) the tenders which were submitted after the extension of the closing date for receipt of tenders.

A tender has been accepted for the sale of my Department's lands in Thorndale. On the acceptance of this tender a contract came into existence under which ownership of the lands passed to the successful tenderer subject to the payment by them of the balance of the purchase price. As a result of a Government decision to dispose of surplus State property the lands at Thorndale were put up for sale as they were surplus to requirements. The sale is not yet closed as the solicitor for the purchaser has not completed his investigation of title to the land. As the tenders were opened in the presence of officials of my Department the need for the auctioneers to report to me the information at (f) (i) (ii) and (iii) did not arise.
