Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

135 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the circumstances in which a milk quota was transferred from a person (details supplied) in County Limerick to the owner of land which gave rise to a portion of the milk quota while he was renting the land.

The position under EC regulations is that milk quota attaches to those lands which were used for milk production in 1983. Accordingly, the owner of such lands is entitled to the benefit of the quota.

The person named has recently applied for a quota allocation on the basis that other lands were used by him for milk production in 1983. My Department as part of their investigation in this matter have requested information in relation to his farming practices from his legal representatives. When this information is received, my Department will make their decision on the allocation of quota as quickly as possible.
