Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dunleer (Louth) By-Pass.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

181 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in giving sanction for the contract for the Dunleer by-pass, County Louth; when sanction will be given; if the project will commence by the end of February 1991; the cost of the project; the number to be employed; the completion date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There was no undue delay in dealing with this matter.

On 25 October 1990, I approved Louth County Council's proposal to accept a tender for the construction of the Dunleer by-pass subject to the provision, by the nominated contractor, of the normal performance bond, insurances and valid C2 or tax clearance certificate, and other detailed conditions.

Subject to compliance with these conditions, the timing of the commencement of work and the level of employment that will arise are matters for the contractor and the local authority. My Department will provide the funding, as required. The work is likely to take two-and-a-half to three years to complete.
