184 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the schedule of surface dressing applications which he considers necessary to maintain our national primary roads in good condition.
As a general rule, a seven year surface dressing cycle is considered appropriate in the case of national primary roads.
In practice, the selection of sections of these roads to be surface dressed in a particular year is based on a number of factors, including inspections by local authority engineers and the results of annual SCRIM (sideways force coefficient routine investigation machine) surveys which provide an indication of the level of skid resistance of the road surface.
