Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Income Supplement.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

144 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he intends having discussions with ERAD to discuss the problems of farmers who find themselves with herds locked up and unable to sell stock; if provision can be made for an income supplement for farmers in this position; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the director of ERAD that an income supplement is payable to herdowners with 100 animals or less on the date of restriction at the rate of £25 per month for suckler cows and £15 per month for dairy cows and other animals. This system was designed with a view to alleviating hardship in the case of small farmers whose herds are locked up due to outbreaks of disease.
