Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport Scheme.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

237 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education the progress which has been made in relation to second level school transport in the Glanmire area of Cork, taking into consideration public statements that this facility has been granted but, as yet, has not been implemented; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

283 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the school transport scheme for the children in the Riverston-Glanmire area of County Cork, in view of a statement by the Minister of State at her Department in March 1990 to a delegation of concerned parents that this facility was a priority for the area and no decision has been made since then.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 237 and 283 together.

My Department are at present finalising plans for the provision of special transport services for post-primary students in the Riverston/Glanmire area. A number of post-primary schools have been designated for transport purposes and the process of determining eligibility and of organising routes will shortly begin. I would hope to have the services in place for the resumption of classes after the Christmas break.
