Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Graduate Research Bursaries.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

54 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the seven post graduate research bursaries worth a total of £28,000 to be granted to chemistry students from Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway; if she intends to extend bursaries to the regional technical colleges and the Dublin Institute of Technology; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the very commendable scholarship scheme in question, it is not my Department but the Federation of Irish Chemical Industries which provides a fund of £4,000 per annum bursary for three years to each of the seven universities/university colleges in the State. There are no constraints I understand attached to the use of these funds which are used for basic research as the universities/university colleges decide.
