Ceist:122 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health the cost or estimated cost to the Exchequer due to the operation of the income ceiling for the health contribution levy.

Ceist:126 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the loss of revenue arising from exempting medical card holders from the health contribution levy for each of the years from 1985 to 1990.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 121, 122 and 126 together.
It is estimated that the abolition of the income ceiling on health contributions would result in an increase of approximately £18.5 million in the annual revenue intake from this source.
The additional information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. Its compilation would be both difficult and time consuming and would not be justified in the light of present constraints on staff resources.
