99 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a statement on the Government's proposal to privatise Siúicre Éireann cpt.; and the safeguards which will be included in the proposal to protect the existing jobs in Erin Foods, Thurles, County Tipperary.
The Sugar Bill, 1990, and the accompanying explanatory memorandum circulated on 10 December, sets out the steps to be taken in regard to the restructuring of Siúicre Éireann, cpt. through the establishment of a new holding company.
As regards the rights of employees, existing Community legislation safeguards these but nevertheless I am arranging for the inclusion of an appropriate provision to this effect in the draft Bill. I will circulate the provision on Committee Stage.
