Vol. 404 No. 1

Written Answers. - Petrol Retail Outlets.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

113 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is concerned at the reduction in the number of petrol retail outlets in the country; and if he will make a statment on the matter.

I am aware that there has been a gradual, but small, reduction in the overall number of petrol retail outlets in recent years. I am not concerned at this reduction as it will clearly not adversely affect competition.

As the Deputy may be aware, the Fair Trade Commission will shortly be submitting their final report of their inquiry into the supply and distribution of motor fuels. On receipt of the Commisson's report I will give consideration to any measures required to enhance competition in this sector.
