Ceist:136 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice the reason for the delay in processing the retirement pension and gratuity payment of a person (details supplied) in County Louth; and when this matter will be finalised.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that as the person in question applied to retire on medical grounds, it was necessary to obtain full details of her sick leave record and to refer the matter to the chief medical officer for the public service for certification that she was eligible to retire on ill-health grounds. The appropriate certification has now been received, the necessary sanction of the Department of Finance has been sought to allow the retirement on medical grounds, and the appropriate retirement pension and gratuity will be paid as soon as possible.
