Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Petrol Retailers' Margins.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

222 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline his views on the argument of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry that petrol retailers' margins have been reduced by 8.3 per cent in the last five years; and the action he proposes to take to restore this margin to help keep many of the small rural stations in business.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

223 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received the final report of the Fair Trade Commission on the supply and distribution of motor fuels; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 222 and 223 together.

I received the report of the Fair Trade Commission on 9 January 1991. The Restrictive Practices Acts, 1972 to 1987, require that the report be published no later than 8 May next.

I am examining the report in conjunction with the interim report from the commission which dealt with the question of margins.
