Vol. 404 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Eligibility.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

81 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in allocating a spouse's tax free allowance to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; and when an amended tax free allowance certificate will be issued.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a certificate of tax-free allowances on a noncumulative basis was issued to the taxpayer on 1 February 1991, granting her total allowances of £5,717 for the current tax year.

The delay arose because the letter from the taxpayer's spouse seeking transfer of the allowances went to the wrong tax district. The inspector dealing with the taxpayer's spouse's affairs had to write to him for additional information.
