Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cork City Smog.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

252 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the potential danger to public health because of smog in Cork city, he will outline the action he proposes to take to tackle the problem.

Although there have been no recorded breaches in Cork of EC or national air quality standards for smoke, I am aware that relatively high smoke levels have occurred in parts of Cork on a number of days during the present winter.

I intend to review progress in relation to smoke standards at the end of the present heating season and to consider whether any further measures are necessary.
