Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

193 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the extent, if any, of the proposed provision of extra facilities at Caragh national school, Naas, County Kildare; if any further improvements are planned; the extent of such improvements; the schedule for provision of same; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The contract for the provision of four classrooms, a staff room and a library/medical room at Caragh national school, County Kildare is in progress. The school authorities have asked that some additional works be carried out in conjunction with the project. The following items have been approved: provision of bus pull-in area, boundary and retaining walls and the replacement of doors.

The question of the resurfacing of the existing playspace needs to be considered in the context of the available capital and a decision in this regard will be conveyed to the school authorities as early as possible.

194 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request for the provision of extra facilities at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare; the extent of the facilities requested; if she intends to provide any such facilities in the current year, if so, the extent of such facilities to be provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of additional permanent accommodation consisting mainly of eight general classrooms, ten specialist rooms or other ancillary accommodation is currently being planned for Confey community college. It is not possible to indicate at this stage when the planning phase of the project will be completed or when construction will commence.

195 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application to provide facilities at a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

No application has been received in my Department for the provision of the facilities in the school referred to by the Deputy.

Ceist:

196 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education when she will be in a position to sanction the purchase of lands for an extension to Gaeltacht Láir post-primary school, Ballinamore, County Donegal, as requested by Donegal Vocational Education Committee.

In accordance with normal practice, all aspects of a proposal submitted by County Donegal VEC for the development of Gaeltacht Láir vocational school at Ballinamore, County Donegal, including the purchase of a site, are being examined in my Department in the light of the most up-to-date information available. I am not yet in a position to make a decision on the purchase of the site pending the outcome of my Department's examination for the full proposal.
