Vol. 405 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bovine TB.

John Connor

Ceist:

64 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the concern which has been expressed that certain drug substances freely available can, without detectable side effects, be administered to bovine animals with the effect that it can negative reaction to the bovine tuberculin test with the consequent result in these cases for the bovine TB eradication scheme.

I am aware of reports of the alleged use of certain drug substances designed to suppress the visible signs of the tuberculin test in cattle. Any such practice would be in contravention of the existing bovine TB regulations and would attract appropriate penalties. However, I have asked the director of ERAD to keep this matter under continuous review.
