The Dublin Convention sets out objective criteria for determining which State in the European Community will be responsible for examining applications for asylum from persons seeking refugee status within the meaning of Article 1 of the United Nations (Geneva) Convention relating to the Status of Refugees of the 28 day of July 1951 as amended by the (New York) Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees of the 31 day of January 1967.
The Convention will enter into force when it has been ratified by all the member states of the Community. Eleven of the member states have signed the Convention and when Denmark signs procedures to enable Ireland to ratify it will commence.
