Vol. 405 No. 8

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment Delay.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

57 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12, who has been on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment for over three years and is still over 1,000 on the list, might expect to receive the treatment he requires.

The Eastern Health Board inform me that the person referred to has been assessed for orthodontic treatment and has been placed in category III. Priority in the provision of treatment is granted to children with the most severe problems, i.e. children in categories I and II. The board advise that they will commence treatment on this child as soon as possible.

The special budgetary allocation for dental services made available in 1990 allowed the Eastern Health Board to commence orthodontic treatment for some 1,000 prioritised cases last year and progress will be continued in the present year from the special 1991 allocation for dental services.
