Vol. 465 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Meath Schools.

Colm M. Hilliard

Ceist:

80 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education when payment will be made to County Meath Vocational Education Committee in respect of the repairs carried out to Nobber vocational school, County Meath. [10525/96]

Approval was given to County Meath vocational education committee, in September 1993, to employ a replacement contractor for the completion of works outstanding at Nobber vocational school as a result of the non-completion of the building contract by the original contractor. The new contract also provided for remedial work to the school's roof.

All moneys officially approved by the Department in relation to the replacement contract have been paid in full by my Department's building unit.

Ceist:

81 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the impasse which seems to exist in relation to payment due to County Meath Vocational Education Committee in respect of the provision of a metalwork room at the Oldcastle vocational school in view of the fact that work on the project is now almost complete. [10527/96]

County Meath vocational education committee were requested to submit details relating to the new health and safety regulations to the building unit of my Department, prior to approval being given to commence construction of the metalwork room at Oldcastle vocational school.

It appears that the work commenced without the submission of the requested documentation and without official approval from the Department. However, the matter is being addressed in the Department with a view to a speedy resolution and the vocational education committee will be contacted shortly.

Ceist:

82 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for a meeting between the Board of Management of Scoil Eanna, Navan, County Meath, the County Meath Vocational Education Committee and her Department to discuss and confirm the future policy of the school which is in danger of closing down in September 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10528/96]

Efforts by my Department to find a satisfactory solution to the accommodation problems of Scoil Éanna, both in the short and longer-term, are continuing as a matter of urgency. In this regard, proposals will shortly be put to the vocational education committee and the board of management of the school with a view to ensuring its continued operation. A meeting to discuss these proposals and make decisions in the matter can be arranged, if necessary.

I would assure the Deputy that there is no question of Scoil Éanna closing down next September.

Ceist:

83 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the extension of the hall at St. Peter's College, Dunboyne, County Meath, in view of the fact that her Department allocated £200,000 in this respect. [10529/96]

My Department agreed in principle to allocate a sum of £200,000 towards the extension of Dunboyne community centre, in lieu of providing a PE facility in the phase 2 building project at St. Peter's College, Dunboyne, Co. Meath.

Dunboyne community centre committee has subsequently requested the building unit to increase the amount of grant-aid, on the basis that it would cost considerably more than the amount on offer to provide the PE facilities in the college.

The application has been considered by the building unit of my Department, and I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I have decided to increase the grant to £280,000.
