Vol. 406 No. 1

Written Answers. - Underage Gambling.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

36 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice the steps he intends taking to deal with the problem of underage gambling, particularly in premises not licensed for gaming; if he has proposals to amend the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the gardaí regularly visit and continue to monitor establishments, of the kind referred to in the question to ensure that the provisions of the law and in particular those which relate to gaming by persons under 16 years of age are upheld. The Deputy can be assured that the Garda authorities investigate all alleged breaches of the gaming and lotteries Acts which are brought to their attention.

If and when I have proposals to amend the gaming and lotteries Acts they will be announced inthe normal way.
