Vol. 406 No. 1

Written Answers. - Increase in Crime.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

75 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the increasing volume of crime in the Kingswood Heights area of Tallaght, Dublin 24; his views on whether additional Garda resources are urgently needed to cope with this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of crimes reported from Kingswood Heights in 1990 shows a reduction of about one-third on the corresponding figures for 1988 and 1989. The Garda authorities attribute this reduction primarily to the operation of the community policing scheme in the area and assure me that the necessary resources will continue to be allocated to the scheme to ensure its further success. The other factor to which they attribute the reduction is increased patrolling of the area at key times, which is continuing.
