Vol. 407 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Longford Waterway Improvement.

Louis J. Belton

Ceist:

22 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will undertake to clean up the waterway leading from Clondra Harbour, County Longford to the Shannon.

There are two routes from Clondra Harbour, County Longford, to the Shannon.

The first route is southerly along a short stretch of the Camlin River, then along the Clondra Canal and Lock and finally via the Camlin River where it joins the Shannon south of Tarmonbarry Lock. This route was extensively dredged in May 1990.

The second route is in a northwards direction via the Camlin River and merges with the Shannon just south of Lough Forbes. This route is generally free of obstruction. In some periods of very low flow there can be weed growth which is difficult to treat in stretches of this route.
