Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Arthritis Drug Claims.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

181 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to any outstanding claims here or in any other country against a drugs company (details supplied) which is involved in the manufacture of a drug prescribed for arthritis.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question refers to the drug Opren.

This drug was never on sale in this country. It is therefore not likely that there would be any claims with regard to the drug in this country.

I understand that legal proceedings with regard to the drug were initiated in other countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. However, I would not have specific details of the extent of such proceedings.
