Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - AIM Funding.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

126 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to the work carried out by AIM providing help to families and individuals with problems of family breakdown; if he has received representations seeking financial assistance to enable AIM to continue their work; if he is prepared to meet with a delegation from AIM to discuss their application for financial assistance; if he is prepared to recommend that at least £30,000 be made available to AIM to allow them continue their work in 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application has been received from the organisation concerned under the scheme of grants for locally-based women's groups which I introduced in 1990. I understand the organisation have also applied to the Departments of Health and Justice.

There is a large number of applications for assistance under this scheme and this affects the amount which can be made available to any particular group. It would not be possible to provide ongoing funding as requested by the Deputy but the specific application made by this organisation is being considered.

As soon as all the applications received in my Department are examined decisions will be made and the organisations will be notified. The organisation has not requested a meeting to discuss the application.
