Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Virginia (County Cavan) Sewerage Scheme.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

132 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to provide the new sewage treatment works at Virginia, County Cavan; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that (1) the present system which was installed early in this century was to cater for 40 houses approximately, (2) this system is now long out-dated and (3) the sewage is overflowing directly into a lake shore which is of high tourist amenity value; and if he will make a favourable statement ensuring that there is money made available immediately to build the treatment works and alleviate the existing problem.

My Department approved the preliminary report for Virginia sewerage scheme in November 1990. Contract documents are now awaited from Cavan County Council. The question of funding does not arise at this stage.
