Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Access to Dublin Business Premises.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

133 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that following the decision to agree to the closure of Poolbeg Street and Rath Row in Dublin 2 to facilitate Irish Life's George's Quay development, a small local business (details supplied) which employs 18 people is being forced to close because access cannot be gained to their premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 18 April 1989 Dublin Corporation made an order extinguishing the right of way over Luke Street (part of), Poolbeg Street (part of) and Rath Row. Objections to the proposed extinguishment were received from a number of parties (including the business referred to by the Deputy). Accordingly an oral hearing was held by my inspector on 20 and 21 December 1990 at which the objections were fully considered.

Following consideration of the inspector's report on the oral hearing, I approved the order on 27 March 1991 subject to the exclusion of Luke Street (part of). While there will be some temporary and intermittent inconvenience during construction of the Irish Life development, the exclusion of Luke Street (part of) will facilitate continued access to the property referred to by the Deputy.
