Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork Land Acquisition.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

145 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment when he will pay the £1.783 million owed to Cork Corporation for land acquisition at Grattan Street/Kyrls Quay and roadworks carried out on Boreenmanna Road, Merchants Quay and other miscellaneous schemes; and if he will make a statement on the situation whereby Cork Corporation are paying £250,000 per year interest to banks because of his failure to pay Cork Corporation for moneys spent on essential sanctioned projects.

The sum referred to represents expenditure incurred by the corporation on road improvement projects, over and above the road grant allocations for those projects. The extent to which the expenditure is acceptable as a charge against road grants is the subject of ongoing consultation with the corporation. Recoupment of any amounts properly due will be made from any savings that may emerge in the 1991 allocations to other local authorities or from road grant allocations in subsequent years.
