Vol. 407 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

59 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an adult dependant of a pensioner who has been permanently hospitalised cannot apply for free telephone rental allowance as a person aged over 66 and living alone; the estimated cost of altering this provision to allow these people enjoy the benefit of this allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of cases of the kind referred to by the Deputy would be relatively small and arrangements can be made to enable free telephone rental allowance to continue in these cases. If the Deputy has a specific case in mind the necessary arrangements will be made if he furnishes the appropriate details.
