Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ophthalmic Operation Appointment.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

175 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if he will expedite a cataract operation for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who has been told by the Western Health Board that it will be six to eight months before she is called for surgery.

The person in question is on the outpatient waiting list for an ophthalmic appointment.

The Deputy will appreciate that waiting lists are a matter for the consultant concerned and priority is given to medically urgent cases.

Should the person in question be concerned about her condition, she should return to her general practitioner who would be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of her case to the consultant directly.
