Vol. 408 No. 8

Written Answers. - Parking Fines Revenue.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

77 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the amount collected in parking fines in the Cork Corporation area in each of the past three years; the percentage of this which was used to pay wages and expenses of parking attendants; and the number of attendants involved.

No traffic wardens are employed by the Garda authorities in Cork. However, traffic wardens are employed in Cork by Cork Corporation and neither the Garda authorities nor I have any function in relation to these. The moneys received in respect of fines-on-the-spot notices issued by these wardens are retained by Cork Corporation.

The sums collected by the Garda authorities in respect of fines-on-the-spot notices issued by members of the force as part of their normal traffic law enforcement duties in Cork city for the three years referred to in the question were as follows; 1988-£43,275; 1989-£50,750 and 1990-£82,720.
