Vol. 409 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shotgun Certificates.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

44 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance the number of shotgun certificates under the Firearms Act, 1925, with an appropriate endorsement under the Wildlife Act, 1976, which were issued by his Department on behalf of the Minister for Justice, to tourists who wished to shoot game birds in the following counties during the past six years: (1) Kerry, (2) Mayo, (3) Galway, (4) Roscommon, (5) Sligo and (6) Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Records of shotgun certificates issued to non-residents are not compiled on the basis of the whereabouts of the lands over which applicants declare that they have sporting rights, or that they have the permission of the holder of sporting rights, to shoot birds or hares pursuant to and in accordance with any open season's order under the Wildlife Act, 1976.

The information sought is not, therefore, readily available and it would take an inordinate amount of time to prepare such material.
