Ceist:62 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine whether it is intended to issue any further licences for the removal of sand around the Irish coast; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Such licences are only issued where I am satisfied on the basis of consultation, inter alia, with local authorities that the removal involved would pose no threat to the local environment and is otherwise in the public interest. Only a very limited number of such licences are issued.
