Vol. 409 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water Supply and Sewerage Schemes.

Seán Barrett

Ceist:

114 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the entire water supply system in the Dún Laoghaire area is in a very marginal pressure situation; if he will outline whether funds are available to finance the water supply improvement scheme submitted to his Department by Dún Laoghaire Corporation; and, if so, the estimated date for the commencement of this water supply scheme.

A major water supply improvement scheme for Dún Laoghaire has already been identified indicatively in the Operational Programme: Water, Sanitary and other Local Services 1989-1993.

I approved the preliminary report for this scheme in March 1990 and Dún Laoghaire Corporation were advised to prepare the contract documents as a matter of urgency. Necessary site investigations are being carried out with a view to finalising the contract documents and bringing the scheme to tender and construction at an early date.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

115 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a preliminary report in respect of the provision of a sewerage scheme for Kilcullen, County Kildare, from Kildare County Council; if the report is likely to result in favourable consideration of the project by his Department; if approval in principle is likely to be given to the project in the near future; and if he will make a statment on the matter.

A preliminary report for this scheme was recently received in my Department and is being examined.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

116 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for the Environment when he intends allowing Cork County Council to seek a tender for the north-west regional water scheme Ketragh development.

Having regard to the existing level of commitments and competing demands within the water and sanitary services programme, I cannot say when I will be in a position to approve this proposal.
