Vol. 409 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Bus Route.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

121 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if she will make arrangements to have the Ballycarney to Tombrack school bus redirected to come through the town of Ferns, County Wexford, an additional distance of about one mile, in order that the 60 children from Ferns who attend the co-educational convent school in Bunclody can avail of school transport; if not, if grant assistance can be given by her Department towards the cost of maintaining the present transport arrangements with a local firm; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Since Ferns is in the Enniscorthy post-primary centre catchment area pupils from Ferns are eligible for transport to that centre.

There has never been provision in the school transport scheme for grants towards the cost of privately operated transport services for post-primary pupils in such circumstances as outlined in the question.
