Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Improvement Schemes.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

47 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment the reason there has been a cutback in the allocation to Galway County Council for local improvement schemes for 1991; and if he will consider making a supplementary allocation to the county council for this vital work.

In determining the 1991 grants under the local improvement scheme, I decided to increase by £25,000, the grants to county councils which had been allocated less than £100,000 in 1990. This was to allow a reasonable level of activity under the scheme in all areas of the country. This increase was balanced by proportional reductions in the allocations for counties allocated over £150,000 in 1990. I am satisfied that the allocation to Galway County Council is fair and equitable in the circumstances.
