Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Commission Repayments.

Seán Power

Ceist:

99 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the extreme difficulties being experienced by the farmers who received land (details supplied) from the Land Commission; his views on whether the repayments being demanded are exorbitant; the steps he intends to take to resolve the problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Some annuities on the land in question have already been reduced by 35 per cent and because of this the Land Commission have incurred a sizeable loss between the purchase and allotment prices of the land. In the circumstances it is unlikely that any further reductions could be granted. Nevertheless I am arranging for the annuities on the land to be reviewed.
