Ceist:120 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will grant borough status to the town of Tralee, County Kerry.

The Government's local government reform programme was outlined in a statement issued on 7 March 1991 and the first phase in the reform programme was completed with the enactment last month of the Local Government Act, 1991, which contains a range of reform measures. The Act provided for the postponement of elections to sub-county local authorities to allow for consideration of appropriate arrangements at that level. Any proposals in relation to changes in the status of existing authorities at sub-county level will be considered in this context.
