Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Date of Inquest.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

119 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice the reason no inquest has yet been held and no death certificate issued for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who died while she was a prisoner in Mountjoy Prison on 6 March 1990; and when the inquest will be held and a death certificate issued.

The holding of an inquest is a matter for the coroner who is an independent officer, and I have no function in the matter. I have, however, made inquiries of the coroner's office and I have been informed that the inquest in relation to the death in question will be held shortly. The death certificate would normally issue shortly after an inquest.
