Vol. 409 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Policing Arrangements.

Seán Barrett

Ceist:

80 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a specific area in the constituency of Dún Laoghaire (details supplied) has been subjected to an unprecedented level of break-ins in recent weeks; and if he will outline the steps he intends taking to provide proper protection to the residents of this area as a matter of urgency.

I am informed by the Garda authorties that there has been a number of residential burglaries in the area referred to by the Deputy. The problem has been receiving special attention from the Garda and a number of significant detections have been made. In recent days one person has been dealt with by the courts in relation to 28 burglaries.

The Garda authorities inform me that the area is receiving attention from foot and mobile patrols and from specialist units. They have assured me that the situation is being closely monitored and that whatever further action may be appropriate to deal with the problem in the area will be taken.
