Vol. 409 No. 8

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

93 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she will meet a deputation from Scoil Iognaid Ris, Naas, County Kildare, with a view to obtaining an update on their requirements at the school; her views on whether such a meeting is imperative in view of the extra accommodation required with the onset of the new school year, if she has evaluated all the data already made available to her from the school; if she is in a position to come to a favourable decision prior to meeting such a deputation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently received a request from the school authorities to receive a deputation concerning the school. As the Deputy will be aware, I have visited the school and I have seen the facilities for myself. However, as the Deputy will also be aware, there are many applications at my Department for extensions and new school buildings, and I am presently examining the capital programme.

I will be happy to meet a deputation from the school as soon as my schedule permits, and I will be asking my office to contact the school authorities with a suitable date and time when it is appropriate. Pending this meeting I will ask senior officials from my Department's planning and building unit to meet the school authorities.
