Vol. 409 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cork Association for Autistic Children.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

62 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to (a) the facility developed by the Cork Association for Autistic Children at Greenville House, (b) the fact that they are unable to operate this facility due to a lack of finance from either his Department or the Southern Health Board; the steps he intends to take to ensure that the excellent facilities therein are used to their maximum potential; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

64 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health whether he will make support available to the Cork Association for Autistic Children whose premises known as Greenville House was officially opened in April 1991, but which still remains empty pending receipt of support; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62 and 64 together. I understand that the Southern Health Board have had discussions with the Cork Association for Autistic Children regarding the operation of a facility for adolescent and adult autistics at Greenville House, Cork. The board are at present considering the provision of support for this project as part of their overall strategic plan for the development of community health services under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. This plan will be discussed and agreed with my Department. I might add the Irish Society for Autistic Children receive financial support from my Department and health boards towards the running costs of their services.
