Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Child Day Care Services.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

121 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the total allocation in 1991 towards the provision of day care services for children of pre-school age; and if he has any proposals to expand these services.

It is anticipated that a minimum of £1,570,000 will be spent by the health boards on day care services for pre-school children in 1991. This does not represent the total expenditure on day care services as in the case of a number of health boards grants are made to voluntary bodies to provide family resource services in addition to day care services and it is not possible to give separate figures for the day care element.

The development of services for pre-school children is being considered in the context of the provisions of both the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and the Child Care Bill, 1988 which was recently passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas.
