Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Renal Treatment Service.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

135 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the present level of service available for renal treatment in the Meath Hospital, Dublin 8; the way in which these services compare with those available in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9; and if he has satisfied himself that patients in the Meath Hospital are getting satisfactory service.

The Meath Hospital provides renal dialysis treatment for patients Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The unit also provides home dialysis for suitable patients. Twenty-four hour seven day week advice is available to patients as required. Approximately 40 patients attend the unit for dialysis and a further 35-40 patients are on home dialysis.

Beaumont Hospital provides dialysis on a seven day week, twenty-four hour basis for approximately 100 patients. This unit also provides home dialysis for about a further 50 patients.

The existing arrangements for dialysis are the subject of discussions which will shortly commence with the hospitals concerned as part of a broader examination of arrangements for renal patients nationally.
