Seán Ryan

Ceist:

167 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the appointment of remedial teachers, with particular reference to the application by St. Catherine's national school, Rush and Loughshinny national school, County Dublin.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 145, 159, 163, 165 and 167 together.

Decisions regarding the allocation of the 80 additional remedial teaching posts, which became available under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, have now been taken and the schools selected have been notified. These appointments have been made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. These schools have been selected on the basis of priority of need. These additional 80 appointments will serve the need of approximately 240 schools.

As the names of schools which have been selected is a matter between the boards of management and my Department it would be contrary to normal practices to supply a list of these schools.
