Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Music Scholarships.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

146 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the availability of music scholarships for girls at second level.

As the Deputy will be aware from my recent correspondence in this matter the vast majority of second level schools are in the free post-primary education scheme and free education is provided for day pupils in those schools.

Music scholarships are available to some privately owned and managed secondary schools. These are advertised by the school authorities in national/local press from time to time but especially around March-April.

I understand that scholarships for boys — full board and tuition are available at Schola Cantorum, St. Finian's College, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Intending applicants should apply for brochure, or write stating music and general ability to the director, Mr. Shane Brennan, B.Mus.
Scholarships for boys and girls may also be available at St. Patrick's Cathedral Grammar School, St. Patrick's Close, Dublin 8. Intending applicants should contact the headmaster, Mr. John Dexter, Head of Choristers, for details.
