Ceist:

42 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Taoiseach the total exports of raw wool by volume and value in each of the past five years; the total imports of wool by volume and value in the last five years; and the total export and import of woollen products in each of the last five years.

The Taoiseach

Exports and imports of wool, not carded or combed, in each of the past five years are given in the following table. However, it has not been possible in the time available to extract the data on woollen products. These data will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as they are ready.

In general it should be noted that commodity detail from external trade statistics does not include (a) transactions (non-dutiable) of less than £100 in 1986 and £200 from 1987; (b) trade by firms operating in Shannon Free Airport; and (c) postal packages not covered by customs entries.
