Developments in wind energy both at home and abroad are monitored by my Department with a view to supporting their introduction in Ireland where technical and economic criteria can be satisfied. In this regard, the outcome of the wind-farm project at Bellacorick, County Mayo which is scheduled to come on stream in August next year will provide valuable information and experience on the operation of this technology in Ireland on a commercial scale.
