71 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline the average direct cost per year for each 1,000 persons on the register of unemployment.

Ceist:

72 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline, in respect of every 1,000 persons on the register of unemployment, the average cost to the Exchequer of benefits, waivers and entitlements, other than the weekly payments, provided by Departments, local authorities health boards and CIE to which they would not be so entitled if they were employed.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 71 and 72 together.

The full year cost of unemployment payments per 1,000 persons unemployed is estimated at £3 million.

Statistics are not maintained in such a way as to enable the other information requested by the Deputy to be supplied.
