Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claim.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

80 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason his Department is withholding payment of unemployment benefit from a person (details supplied) in County Wexford for days on which he is demonstrably available for and seeking employment, given that the only employment he has is casual and intermittent work with Sealink which is not subject to the same pay rates as those applying to permanent employees of this firm.

The person concerned has worked and claimed unemployment benefit on alternative weeks from 29 May 1991. Before a decision can be given on his claim it is necessary to investigate further the nature of his conditions of service to establish whether he was unemployed during those days he signed the unemployed register.

When the person concerned and his employer have supplied the information requested a decision will be made on his entitlement.
