Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Free Legal Aid.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

89 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice when a person (details supplied) in Cork will be granted an interview regarding her free legal aid in view of the fact that she cannot get her deserted wife's benefit until her free legal aid is decided upon.

The administration of the legal aid scheme is a matter for the Legal Aid Board and the scheme does not allow me to exercise any power or control in relation to any particular case. However, I understand from the board that in this case, when the applicant called to the law centre she gave no indication that there was any special urgency attaching to her application for legal services under the civil legal aid scheme. The board say that if the situation is now different, she should contact the law centre immediately.
